As Churchill Downs Inc.’s second quarter earnings report is readied for its July 31 release, here’s one more first-quarter statistic.

Several weeks ago, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission released statistics on the first quarter wagering by the state’s residents through advance deposit account wagering companies, like Churchill’s TwinSpires.com.

TwinSpires’ $11.74 million total was up 9.63 percent over the previous first quarter of $10.71 million, according to KHRC statistics. Last year was the first year account wagering companies had to make quarterly reports to the state.

TwinSpires’ Kentucky total was just ahead of Betfair TVG’s $11.39 million, and those two were far and away the biggest. The Stronach Group’s XpressBet handled $1.39 million in Kentuckians’ bets during the quarter while Avatar Ventures handled $1.9 million. The nine companies reported $27.25 million in bets from Kentucky customers during the January-to-March period.

In 2012, the total was $142.7 million, according to the state.
